This is a 1971 Electro-Mechanical arcade game by Midway Manufacturing Co., called "Invaders from Outer Space". This very retro machine, I've read, may have been the predecessor to the video game later known as Missile Command. The user controls missiles, which you can control on the way down, to hit your targets, in this case a rotating UFO, and four different Invaders that randomly come up out of the cityscape. This game is a lot of fun, and requires some skill to hit your targets.
This game was partially working when I got it, and the cabinet was pretty rough. I decided to restore the cabinet and repaint the outer trim, which allowed me to fix the major damage. Since this is not a game that is easily found now, it was worth the effort. The original art was preserved, and sealed. This game has many mechanical moving parts, and also has some basic electronic boards in it, to control the sounds. Most of the repairs this needed were mechanical, or it could have gotten complex quickly.
There are more pictures of the restoration, which took a few days, as well as a video of the game in action, posted below.
This game was traded for a few project machines that I thought would be fun to restore in June, 2014.
