1969 Gottlieb Hearts and Spades
I got this machine in a trade with a buddy of mine. It's a hard machine to find, so I was happy to find one in any condition. This one had some play field wear that was pretty bad, a sure sign of a great game, which this is.
I had to sort out several electrical issues after going through all the mechanical components in this machine. Someone had wired this for credits, probably to upgrade to allow the vendor to set the number of quarters per play. I removed all that wiring, and set it on free play.
I use a local paint shop for all my arcade restorations, primarily because the guy at this shop has a great eye for mixing paint. I brought the play field in to the shop and had him match up four different colors for me. I'm very pleased with the outcome of this play field repair. I wasn't trying to create a collector quality machine, just wanted this to play like it used to, and it does. This is a snappy machine, and challenging with the 2" flippers.
The video will show you how the spin feature works, which is a great addition to this machine. It's nice to see the cards moving in the back glass, and the spin is random each time. There is a mechanical device in the machine that winds up and hits a spinner in the cabinet, which in turn moves the cards in the back glass. That needed to be completely re-adjusted based on the position it was in when I got this machine.
This is a great machine that will reside in our old school arcade, a highly recommended machine if you can find one. Add-a-Ball feature makes this even more desirable.
